Due to the Coronavirus spread in South Africa and more closely the growth in cases in the Eastern Cape, we have implemented additional safety and infection control measures to reduce the risk of spreading virus and play our part in flattening the curve.
Guided by The World Health Organization and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases and to comply with the directives provided by our President and Government officials during Level 4 lockdown we have implemented the following preventative measures:
- Our staff have received additional training and information on infection control and prevention as well as good hygiene practices.
- Infection control posters regarding COVID19 symptoms, hand washing and sanitizing practices, social distancing as well as cough etiquette have been placed on display for both our staff and patients around the hospital building
- We have implemented temperature testing of employees and patients and visitors
- Visitors are required to complete their information into our visitors log and will be screened at all entrances to the building – this information will be kept confidential
- We have provided hand sanitiser and personal protective equipment to all of our staff members – we continue to comply with Health and Safety Standards.
- We have permanent hand sanitizers situated around the hospital building and have provided additional hand sanitisers to all persons entering our building.
- To support social distancing we have rearranged our waiting areas to increase the distances between patients waiting to be admitted into the ward
- All staff, patients and visitors will be required to wear facemasks before entering our facility
- No visitors will be allowed to accompany patients into the facility and are asked to either wait in their vehicle or return once the patient’s procedure or consultation has been completed. Only ONE parent / legal guardian of a minor or a support person for patients with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities/limitations or cognitive impairment who require assistance will be allowed into the facility.
- During this time we will not allow staff to attend meetings or training outside of our premises.
- We respectfully request people who are ill or who have recently travelled, not to visit our premises at this point in time and reschedule their surgical date.
If you think you may have contracted the virus, you can call the NICD helpline (0800 029 999) for more information and directives.
We are continuously monitoring and assessing what is happening locally and abroad and will inform patients, suppliers and staff immediately of any updates or changes.
